Can I use a 7 inch round cake tin for a recipe that is meant for a 9 inch round cake tin ?

Can I simply convert the original recipe on a proportionate basis? Say eg, if the recipe says 2 cups, could I change it to 1.5 cups (7/9 times 2 cups). What about the length of baking time ? Thanks!

I would suggest making the recipe in full and simply cutting back on how much you put into the cake pan — consider making some cupcakes with it instead…. cutting recipes with cakes usually turns out unfortunately!

Also, it will probably cut off about 5-10 minutes of baking time, so just make sure you check it with a toothpick prior to the original cooking time given.
