Pause That

Pause That
Pause That
Why is that when my downloads hang, I can pause/restart to kick start them back up again?

This technique works for me for both computer downloads and playstation 3 downloads. If I leave them along, they’ll hang indefinitely at random spots during the download. But if I pause/restart (sometimes it takes a few tries, like trying to start an old car), the download resumes.

Is this a hardware issue with the modem?

No, it’s an issue with the internet. If you have a path from you to the server that gets overloaded, or just dies (thinks break), the download can just hang waiting for the next packet. (It depends on how your download program works.) If you pause and restart you’ll most likely get a new path, since internet routing changes moment by moment.

Downloading from servers closer to you usually eliminates the problem. (The farther the server and the longer the file, the more likely it is to happen.)

The power of pause

Recently, in a voice and Presentation Skills workshop I had in Toronto, Canada, a man got to make a presentation brief for the next 3 minutes were bombarded by constant verbiage. Strong, fast, in-your-face, that words are hard to assimilate due to the non-stop delivery of this particular â € ~ professional "speaker.

The color of teaching – life, animation, emotion is expressed when speaking – I love it when we got to the break. Indeed, one of the most important components of the dynamic expression, the pause that allows the listener to regroup, which allows the speaker breathing and thinking (although never as quickly), and allows for a moment of silence, if only for a nano-second.

To be assaulted by words without end is exhausting, certainly for the speaker, but more important to your audience. You do not want to tire his listeners want to weaken them, to educate, motivate, and inspire them. A barrage of sound is none of these things. Noise.

If your goal is to become a dynamic speaker, either professional or work or because has been elected president of his weekly reference business group, learn to speak to your audience and do not mean to be allowed to pause and do not give a â € ~ Memory performance.

To speak in public is okay to give a speech or presentation. You know the difference? Speeches are more common in funerals, weddings, inaugurations. There will be opportunity to read, however, those who are good at giving speeches that sound like they are reading. Presentations on the other hand, tend to be longer, usually incorporate visual aids, and should never be read or memorized. Whether a speech or presentation, the idea is to sound as if talking with someone in your living room. And, as you would a pause in the conversation in your living room, too, must pause during a presentation or speech.

Try this exercise. Read: prayer and a brief pause, showing the carat or inverted v.

I could not do that ^.

But this time say the phrase and pause after the word â € ~ I '(not two breaks, only one). If you are expressive speech, you will find that the break working in either case, however, you can actually pause after any of those words. You may have found that rocked his head in the form negative as you said the sentence or possibly slipped into the word â € ~ I when you paused after the pronoun.

With good training, you discover that you can pause almost anywhere in any sentence, if you have any color, all life in its delivery – if you speak in a monotone, however, the pause does not work.

Detention is not rhythmic, for example, you do not want to pause after every 3 or 4 words, nor should pause after every sentence. Break is flexible, however, should never be exaggerated. My mother-in-law, a very intelligent woman, is a perfect example of the exaggerated pause and think it is because she is so deep in thought. Listening to her tell a story is a lengthy and complex process and it is very difficult to stay focused on what she is trying to say.

We are also under the mistaken belief that if we are saying or reading a very long sentence without punctuation, which are not allowed to pause. I disagree. Just as there is a license as a writer, there is also a broadcaster's license. You can add a comma, a comma out, and even miss a period at the end of a sentence if desired. The secret is to be yourself. If you can treat your audience as if having a conversation, you speak to your audience as if taking a conversation, and from my experience, I found that most people in normal conversation, pause. It is natural, normal, is rewarding.

So next time you stand to speak to an audience, try to pause. You will be amazed at how much control you have on their appearance or speech if you will allow yourself the power of the pause.
